Standard Router Network

A DALI router network consists of a DDC910 router, a suitable control device and a load or ballast. Out of the box, every control device connected to the DALI network will control all the loads connected to the same DALI network. Using the router allows for connection to a computer data network over the TCP/IP link. Multiple routers can be connected on to the same TCP/IP network so that they can interact with each other.

A control device can be a switch plate, an input unit or a sensor. DALI devices will require commissioning for them to perform correctly. This can be done with computer software or hand held remote controls.

The basic network router DDC910 can support two DALI networks up to 64 devices each and up to 250mA on each network (128 devices and 500mA in total).

Commissioning of the system is performed using a computer via the TCP/IP port, either directly connected to the router or through a broader TCP/IP data network. With software, all the parameters can be set for all the items connected to the system. Groups can be programmed, as can scenes and daylight regulation levels. Switch buttons can be programmed to perform a variety of functions.

The operation of the system once it is installed is greatly dependant upon final commissioning. Each area can have a mixture of detectors, input units or switches and ballasts or luminaires. Each area can be operated independantly but also have a master control through the router. If multiple routers are installed, switches on any of the DALI networks can communicate with and control any ballast on any network.

Using a router provides the following advantages over installing a standalone DALI network.

  • Supports DALI emergency for remote monitoring and scheduled testing
  • Conditional logic programming enables total flexibility
  • Can accept Ethernet I/O commands from a 3rd party system connected to the TCP/IP network
  • Corridor hold, scene links and group links can be used
  • Up to 128 scenes over 8 scene blocks
